How does Folksee work?

Create a reel:

Build a new reel by visiting Folksee.com and crafting a reel tailored to your occasion.

Add questions to your reel:

Choose questions to prompt the reel participants to share their messages and memories. Each person will have 45 seconds to record each question. They will be able to retake their videos as many times as they’d like.

Share the reel invite link:

Share the invite link to your intended participants. You can send it via email, text, or social media post. You can also add everyone’s emails to the reel invite list, and we’ll email them reminders.

Record from any device:

Folksee supports direct video recording from PCs, Macs, iPhones, and Androids, eliminating the need for an app download.

View incoming videos:

Watch videos populate the reel in real-time. Anyone with the link can access and view the reel.

Gift the Reel:

Give the reel to the honoree (or their next of kin) by entering their email or sending them the reel gift link. They can save their reel to their Folksee account and record a 60 second thank you video for the group

Getting Started

How long does it take to create a Folksee reel?

Most reels come together in under a week. Setting up your reel and prompts takes about 5 minutes — then give your guests about a week to record, with a reminder or two along the way, before you gift the finished reel.

Can I customize the appearance of my Folksee reel?

Yes, each reel can be personalized with an image and a name. This allows participants to quickly understand the purpose of the reel.

What occasions can I make a reel for?

Folksee works for any milestone worth celebrating together — birthdays, weddings, engagements, graduations, retirements, baby showers, anniversaries, get-well wishes, farewells, memorials, and simple “thank you” or “congratulations” reels. If you don't see your occasion listed, you can still start a reel and customize the questions yourself.

Do I need an account to create a reel?

Yes, you'll need to create a free Folksee account before you can start building a reel.

Inviting & Participants

How many people can I invite?

Feel free to invite as many people as you want! Your Folksee account comes with 5 free credits. Should your guest list surpass this limit, no worries! We'll gather the videos and provide you with the opportunity to add more credits, ensuring all participants are included in the reel.

Is there a deadline for submitting videos to a reel?

Yes, every reel has a deadline that the reel creator sets. If they invite folks with the Reel invite list, then folks will get automated email reminders to record to the reel. They can change the deadline, if they want to include lollygaggers.

What happens if someone submits after the deadline?

Once the deadline passes, recording closes for that reel — no late submissions. If you need more time, the reel creator can go back in and extend the deadline before it hits.

What if someone doesn't want to appear in the reel?

Participants have the option to watch the reel without contributing videos if they prefer not to appear in it.

Are there any technical requirements for recording and uploading videos?

Any connected device with a camera and microphone can be used with Folksee. No app downloads are necessary, making participation hassle-free. Some folks find it easier to record videos on their computers. Folksee works on iOS, Android, PC and Mac.

What browser should I use?

For the smoothest recording experience, we recommend using Chrome or Safari, especially on mobile. If a link opens in an in-app browser (like from a text or social app), just tap to open it in Chrome or Safari instead.

Managing Videos

Is there a limit to the number of videos I can add to a reel?

Yes, reels are limited to one video per participant per question. Each reel can have up to 5 questions. Each video a participant records can be up to 45 seconds, and they can rerecord it as many times as they'd like.

Can I edit or remove videos once they've been added to the reel?

Absolutely. Anyone can delete any video they contributed by logging into the reel and selecting the video under 'view participants' and deleting the video. You also have the option to record a new video in its place. In addition, admins can remove any videos they think unfit.

Can I add music or other media to the reel?

Currently, Folksee does not support the addition of music or other media to reels. However, we welcome feedback and ideas for improvement via video messages on our Folksee Feedback reel. We are exploring ways to integrate AI into Folksee to enhance everyone’s reels.

Can I download the completed reel?

Yes, you can download any part of the reel for private use or to share on social media.

Can I share the reel on social media?

Yes, you can download videos and upload them to your social platform of choice. We're working on a direct upload feature.

Can the honoree reply, and who sees it?

Yes — when you gift the reel, the honoree can save it and record up to a 60-second thank-you video in reply. That reply is visible to everyone who originally contributed to the reel, so the whole group gets to see their reaction.

Can I make more than one reel?

Yes, you can create as many reels as you'd like — each one just uses its own set of credits.

Pricing & Credits

How much does it cost?

Reels cost 1 credit / person who adds a video. Each person can add up to 5 videos per reel. It costs just $1 / credit. Add more credits to your account here.

What happens to unused credits or credits for people who never respond?

Credits aren't spent until someone actually records a video, so if an invited guest never responds, that credit simply isn't used — it stays on your account for a future reel. Credits never expire.

How long are videos stored on Folksee?

Your videos are safe and sound in our cloud, free of charge. We're committed to keeping it free, but if storage gets tight in the future, a small fee might be needed to keep things running smoothly.
