Question 1

How does Folksee work?

Accepted Answer

Create a reel: pick the occasion, add the name (one person or two) and a photo at Folksee.com. It takes a few minutes. Add questions: choose up to 5 questions for everyone to answer. Pick from ours or write your own. Share one link: every share button comes with a ready-to-send invite message that fits the occasion. Everyone records or uploads from any phone or computer, with nothing to install. Each video is up to 45 seconds. New videos appear on the reel as they arrive. Then gift it: send the private gift link by text or email. They watch, save the reel to a free account, and can record a 60-second thank-you that everyone sees.

Question 2

How long does it take to create a Folksee reel?

Accepted Answer

Setting it up takes a few minutes. Give everyone about a week to record, then gift it. Recording stays open for a week after the due date, so late arrivals still make it in.

Question 3

Can I personalize my reel?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Add a photo, the person’s name (or two names, like “Sam & Alex”), the occasion, and up to 5 questions. Pick from our questions or write your own.

Question 4

What occasions can I make a reel for?

Accepted Answer

Birthday, Wedding, Graduation, Retirement, Baby Shower, Congratulations, Thank You, We love you!, Just Because, Get Well, Thinking of you, Memorial, Team Icebreaker and Reviews. Don’t see yours? Pick the closest one and write your own questions.

Question 5

Do I need an account?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a free one. Sign in with Google, or with an email address and password.

Question 6

Can I make a reel for two people?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Add a second person when you create the reel. It’s perfect for couples, parents and best friends. Wedding reels start with two names.

Question 7

What image can I use for the photo?

Accepted Answer

Most common image types work, including JPG, PNG, HEIC and WebP. If a file can’t be used, you’ll see a short message saying why.

Question 8

Can I go back and change my questions while making a reel?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Going back from Step 2 keeps the questions you’ve written until you finish.

Question 9

How do I invite people?

Accepted Answer

Tap Share on your reel. Your invite message is ready to go, written for the occasion. Send it by text, email, WhatsApp or the group chat. You can edit the message, copy just the link, or turn on “It’s a surprise.”

Question 10

How many people can I invite?

Accepted Answer

As many as you like. A credit is only used when someone actually records, and your first 5 are free. If you run out, nobody is turned away: their videos are held until you add credits.

Question 11

Do contributors need an account?

Accepted Answer

Yes. They sign in once with Google or an email address. It takes a few seconds, and there’s nothing to install.

Question 12

Is there a deadline?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The organizer picks a due date. Recording stays open for a week after it, and the organizer can pick a new due date at any time to open it again.

Question 13

How long can each video be?

Accepted Answer

Up to 45 seconds, whether it’s recorded in Folksee or uploaded. Retake as often as you like. Only the take you save is shared.

Question 14

What if someone doesn't want to appear in the reel?

Accepted Answer

Participants have the option to watch the reel without contributing videos if they prefer not to appear in it.

Question 15

How can I include someone who can’t record?

Accepted Answer

Make a short slideshow of your own photos, screen-record it while it plays, trim it to 45 seconds, and upload it. Use your own photos and videos, not clips from movies, TV or YouTube.

Question 16

Can I record someone who’s with me, like my kids?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Tap “+ Record someone who’s with you” and add their first name. Then pick who’s recording and tap the camera to record their answers with your device. It’s for small children, grandparents, or anyone with you who can’t sign into Folksee themselves. No email, app or account needed. Their videos show up under their own name.

Question 17

Does someone I record use a credit?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Each person who records uses one of the organizer’s credits, guests included.

Question 18

Can I rename someone I recorded, or take them off the reel?

Accepted Answer

Tap Edit guests to rename them or change their order. To take someone off the reel, delete their videos. Credits already used aren’t returned.

Question 19

Can the organizer turn off recording someone who’s with you?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Organizers can switch guests off for a reel. People can then only record themselves.

Question 20

What devices and browsers work?

Accepted Answer

Any phone or computer with a camera and microphone: iPhone, Android, Mac or PC. Chrome or Safari works best. If the link opens inside another app, like a text or social app, open it in Chrome or Safari instead.

Question 21

Can I upload a video I've already filmed?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Next to each question, tap Upload and choose a video from your phone or computer. Videos can be up to 45 seconds.

Question 22

My video came out sideways. Can I fix it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Tap ⋮ on your answered question and choose Rotate. It works on videos added since early October, and the video shows “getting ready” for a moment while it turns.

Question 23

What if my camera won’t turn on?

Accepted Answer

Folksee shows a short card explaining how to allow your camera and microphone in your browser. Or skip it and upload a video instead.

Question 24

Is there a limit to the number of videos?

Accepted Answer

Each person adds one video per question, and a reel has up to 5 questions. Each video is up to 45 seconds.

Question 25

Can videos be changed or removed?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Contributors can replace or delete their own videos. Organizers can delete or restore any video in Manage videos.

Question 26

Someone texted me a video. Can I add it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. In Manage videos, tap “Add a video someone sent you” and upload it for them. Folksee can email them so they can claim it with a free account, or ask to have it removed (your credit comes back).

Question 27

Can I add music or effects?

Accepted Answer

No. Folksee keeps the focus on real faces and voices, with nothing to edit. Each video plays in order, question by question.

Question 28

How do I give the reel?

Accepted Answer

Tap Gift the reel and send the private gift link by text (it shows a gift preview card) or by email. The gift email matches the occasion.

Question 29

What if the gift email doesn’t arrive?

Accepted Answer

If it doesn’t go out, you’ll see a message right away with Try again. You can also copy the private gift link and text it.

Accepted Answer

Yes. A couple or a family can each open the gift link, save the reel, and reply.

Question 31

How does the person it’s for keep the reel?

Accepted Answer

They open the gift link and sign in, and the reel is saved to their free Folksee account. If a late video arrives, they get an email.

Question 32

Can I download the reel?

Accepted Answer

You can save any video in the reel to your phone or computer, one at a time, with the Save button on that video. There isn’t one combined download of the whole reel.

Question 33

Can I share the reel on social media?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Save a video and post it, but ask the person in it first.

Question 34

Can they reply, and who sees it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. They can record a thank-you of up to 60 seconds, and everyone who sent a video gets to see it.

Question 35

How do we watch it together on a TV?

Accepted Answer

Tap Watch on a big screen. The reel plays full screen, one question at a time, with each person’s name and the question beside their video. Show it on your TV with your phone or laptop’s screen mirroring (AirPlay or Cast) or an HDMI cable. Folksee shows you how for your device.

Question 36

How does watching the reel work?

Accepted Answer

Videos play one after another, question by question. Swipe up for the next video, just like the social apps you know.

Question 37

What video quality is it?

Accepted Answer

Videos are recorded in sharp 720p HD, so they look great on a phone or a TV.

Question 38

Can I make more than one reel?

Accepted Answer

Yes, as many as you like. Credits live in your account and work for any reel.

Question 39

How much does it cost?

Accepted Answer

One credit covers one person who adds videos, however many questions they answer. Your first 5 credits are free. After that, packs start at 10 credits for $10, and bigger packs cost less per person (25 for $22, 50 for $40, 100 for $75). No subscription, no ads.

Question 40

Does my own video use a credit?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The organizer’s own video uses a credit, just like everyone else’s.

Question 41

What happens if my reel runs out of credits?

Accepted Answer

Nothing is lost. People can keep recording. Their videos are held, you get one email a day listing who’s waiting, and they join the reel as soon as you add credits.

Question 42

What about unused credits?

Accepted Answer

A credit is only used when someone records. Credits you buy never expire, so leftovers roll into your next reel.

Question 43

Do nonprofits get free credits?

Accepted Answer

Yes, for a limited time: 50 free credits. Email support@folksee.com from your organization’s email address, and we’ll add them to your account.

Question 44

How many emails will I get?

Accepted Answer

Only what’s useful. Organizers get one recap on days with new videos (the very first video gets its own alert), plus a couple of helpful reminders before the due date. Contributors get a confirmation after they record. Every email says why you’re getting it.

Question 45

Can I choose which emails I get?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Tap “Manage emails” at the bottom of any email. No sign-in needed. Essentials, like receipts and the gift itself, always arrive. No ads. No spam. Only what you need.

Question 46

Is Folksee private?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Reels live behind a private link and don’t show up in search engines, and there are no ads. For the details, see our privacy policy.

Question 47

Is storing our reel free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Storing your reel on Folksee is always free.

Question 48

Is there customer support available if I encounter any issues?

Accepted Answer
